Greenpoint, Brooklyn in the snow 2025
Hello friends,
Today feels like one
of those convergence days:
- The national headlines continue to get heavier and heavier.
- Winter storm warnings for most of the nation are rolling in.
- And here, on a very personal level, kindergarten applications for NYCDOE
schools are due today. (I just finished my final public school tour and submitted!)
There is the weather outside, and there is the weather inside.
And whether we name it or not, the nervous system is listening to both.
When the world feels uncertain or urgent, sleep is often the first thing to shift. Falling asleep takes longer. Night wakings feel louder. Dreams get more vivid. This is physiology responding to input.
The brain does not separate collective stress from personal stress. It just hears alarm, which is why moments like this call for gentler nights.
The body looks for signals of safety when the environment feels unpredictable, and a rest routine is one of the strongest signals we
have.
