- a mini white noise machine
- sleep masks
- yoga mat at their request - but I switched it to a meditation
- blue-blocker nighttime glasses
- a red light bookmark (not pictured because its one of my child's favorite things to take out of the nightstand and hide in her room somewhere)
I even did a full Vanna White / QVC style product demo on set.
None of it made the final cut which is fine with me because honestly...
Unless you have sleep apnea and need a CPAP or Oral
Appliance …
You probably don’t need any stuff to sleep.
Sure, gear help but it’s not the magic fix and it definitely won’t retrain your brain.
📡 Curveballs from the Control Room
The producers did send me a list of questions the day before—which I prepared for.
But
when I looked up at the teleprompter on set?
Totally different script.
Instead of talking points I expected (like circadian rhythms, temperature, light), they asked me about:
- What sleep is like at the North Pole and the Equator
- Whether air pressure and rain change sleep quality
- And even: “What yoga poses are best for sleep?”
I felt like a politician up there—dodging curveballs and redirecting to what we do know:
🌞 We want light during the day and dark at
night
🌬️ We sleep better when it’s cool, dark, and dry—not hot, humid, and bright
🧘🏽♀️ And yes—savasana (corpse pose) isn’t magic, but it’s like progressive muscle relaxation: a helpful signal to your nervous system to remember how to be still during the day, before bed, not just at bedtime
None of
that made it in.
But it was honestly fun—and I’d love to do more public sleep education.
So if you know any producers looking for content... hint, hint.
🧠 So what does work?
CBTi (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia)
Circadian rhythm alignment
Talking through sleep anxiety
Knowing when to go with the flow—like I did last week with my kid.
🌞 “But it’s not dark yet!”
That’s what my 4-year-old said when I told her it was bedtime—and the sun was still high in the sky.
Instead of forcing the routine, I let her stay up later, she slept in later, her body adjusted, and I didn’t stress about
it.
Because this month’s theme is all about:
🌀 Adaptability
A flexible approach to life, sleep, and seasons—how to shift gears and stay steady when the light doesn’t want to fade.
And with boat parties, beach weekends, and birthday bashes coming in hot…
🎉 Coming Up: Sleep, Light, and Party Vibes
Summer vibes ask for adaptability.
Last weekend I went to a boat party til midnight AND made it to afterparty til 3am, and I’ve got a double-header birthday all-nighter tonight. It’s made me think a lot about how to keep sleep on track when life gets loud, bright, and exciting.
Next week, I’ll share:
💃🏽 How to recover from a wild night without wrecking your rhythm
🌑 My favorite simple rituals to recalibrate after big energy
Until then, I’d love to hear from you:
What’s one thing you bought to help you sleep… that totally didn’t work?
(Or maybe made things worse?)
Hit reply—I read every message.
Less stuff. More self-trust.
See you next week.
